Mel Gibson’s performance as William Wallace in Oscar-winning Hollywood blockbuster Braveheart saw him wield a deadly claymore.
Now fans have the chance to own the same weapon featured in the 1995 film – but it could fetch between £47,000 and £90,000 at auction.
Designed by armourer Simon Atherton, a distinctive mark on the sword’s pommel – the rounded part at the top of the handle – matches with the prop up for sale.
Auctioneers Propstore say that at some time the original blade was removed, possibly for a specific shot.
It has since been restored with a replica metal blade.

Propstore’s Brandon Alinger said: ‘What makes this such a great piece is that we are able to match the sword to a specific scene, William Wallace thrusting it into the ground at the Battle of Falkirk.
‘That scene inspired the film’s entire promotional campaign – this one prop has multiple reasons to be prized and valued.’
The sword is not the only Braveheart prop up for grabs in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The double-bladed buckler used by Scots actor David O’Hara, a bloodied dagger and a band of wedding tartan used for the marriage of Wallace and Murron MacClannough (Catherine McCormack) are also up for sale.
