Despite being happily smitten with her NFL star boyfriend, one past relationship still haunts Taylor Swift.
Indeed, her brief fling with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy between the end of her six-year relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn in 2023 and the start of her current romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce continues to capture headlines.
Healy, 36, himself is now engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel, but his 67-year-old Denise Welch rather complicated things when she recently appeared to throw shade at Swift, 35, in a TV interview, saying: ‘Being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad I lost.’
‘Listen, you’re not allowed to say anything,’ she added, ‘and then she [Swift] writes a whole album about it.’
Welch was seemingly referencing Swift’s propensity to make lyrical jibes at her ex-partners in her music. And certainly, the singer’s 2024 album, The Tortured Poets Department, contained its fair share of apparent digs at Healy.
One track is titled ‘The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived’.

But far from being a difficult ex-lover, insiders have now told the Daily Mail that Swift could have ‘wreaked havoc’ in the wake of their split, but refrained and decided to ‘put the entire chapter behind her.’
‘Taylor isn’t interested in a feud with Matty and has inadvertently been protecting him by not addressing the concerns she had when they were close,’ our insider said. ‘She just wants to move on from the whole thing.’
When news broke back in May 2023 that Swift was dating Healy – who is known for his controversial on-stage antics, such as snogging fans in the audience – Swifties were aghast and not least because it had only been a few weeks since her split with Alwyn.
Internet sleuths set about digging up Healy’s past misdeeds, including the time he admitted to an apparent penchant for graphic pornography.
During a podcast interview in February 2023, Healy laughed as he discussed an incident in which he had been walked in on while apparently masturbating to a porn site known for videos featuring the humiliation and brutalization of women.
‘I think it literally was, like, Ghetto Gaggers [the site] was on the TV. It’s just somebody just getting, like, brutalized,’ he said blithely.
The incident was said to be the death knell for Swift, with their fling ending as fast as it began.
‘Taylor was aware of the growing backlash about Matty’s comments about porn, but someone had to sit her down and explain exactly what the videos he said he watched were about,’ our source said.
‘Everyone in the room was disgusted and that was when she knew that she couldn’t be around him anymore so she decided to put the entire chapter behind her.
‘She could really have wreaked havoc if she wanted, but she didn’t want to expose her fans to any more of the weirdness that being around Matty had exposed them to.’

The pair had actually reportedly met when Swift attended a 1975 show in Los Angeles in 2014, with friends and fellow singers Selena Gomez and Ellie Goulding in tow.
Almost a decade later, in May 2023, Healy joined Swift on stage for a Nashville stop of her Eras Tour. Later that night they were pictured arriving back at her condo.
Two days later they were seen on their first public date at New York’s Casa Cipriani, with one fan snapping a picture of them hand-in-hand at the elite members club.
Come June, however, reports of a split were already swirling. And one month later, rumors of the Kelce romance began.
For his part, Kelce reportedly has little interest in Swift’s former lovers.
‘Travis is paying zero attention to her exes because he is her present and future,’ a second insider told the Daily Mail. ‘They lost their chance with someone he considers to be perfect, and he is giving her no advice on how to deal with Matty or anyone.’
Representatives for Healy did not respond to requests for comment.
