The Traitors contestant Aubrey Emerson has revealed the item he stole from the castle in Scotland after becoming the first Faithful to be ‘murdered’.

The retired shop owner, 67, was the first victim claimed by the four Traitors after they noted he already ‘had his suspicions’ around who could be hiding in one of the sinister cloaks.

The move wasn’t well-received by many fans, who quickly declared that the ‘wrong person’ had been killed off.

He has now shared one ‘fancy’ item he fell in love with and decided to take home as  a souvenir.

Aubrey told The Mirror: ‘We got given these lovely little alarm clocks in our rooms, just stunning with lovely letters on them.

‘You don’t know the time in there and we have no watches etc – I had no idea what day it was, it could have been Christmas Eve and I wouldn’t have known.’

He went on to reveal: ‘I did say to ‘producers, “can I take this alarm clock with me?” I was told something would get back to me… well they didn’t so it’s now in my bedroom. It’s fabulous. It’s very fancy, just like me.’

The first two hopefuls to be eliminated from The Traitors 2023 were revealed on Thursday, after a murder and banishment in quick succession left the remaining contestants reeling.

The second episode also revealed that Miles Asteri was chosen as the fourth Traitor, joining forces with the group to decide which contestant they wanted to murder.

While the group debated choosing Diane Carson or Sonja, they eventually opted to choose Aubrey.

Miles noted: ‘Aubrey watches from a distance, he’s been in the gameplan since day one,’ with Harry agreeing: ‘This what we don’t want is the separate groups.’

‘The message that we should try and send is no one’s safe. I don’t think anyone would suspect us to say Aubrey, throws him off our scent.’

Upon receiving the letter learning he’d been murdered, Aubrey said: ‘I think I’ve been murdered because I’m too observant, I was a threat to The Traitors and they could see that. I say what I see, they’ve made a big mistake.’

Some viewers admited they were disappointed that Aubrey had been eliminated from the game at such an early stage, though one was quick to predict that he could make a sensational return.

One tweeted: ‘Absolutely creasing at Aubrey repeatedly telling everyone how observant he is and The Traitors promptly sending him straight home #TheTraitors.’

Another added: ‘Aubrey’s last words, ”They’ve made a big mistake,” makes me think he’ll be coming back in some way, just like the first two shock evictions right at the start of the first series. You heard it here, first!’

One fan tweeted: ‘Aubrey would have been fun.. poor guy! robbed,’ and an outraged viewer said: ‘Aubrey would’ve been a STAR we’ve been robbed.’

While the group agreed that the murder made things feel far more ‘real,’ it was the first round table of the series that really shocked the group.

From the start, several faithfuls shared their suspicions that Sonja was a Traitor, with Ross accusing her of ‘stirring’, while Miles admitted her recent comments looked like ‘deflection.’

Traitor Ash referred back to an exchange at breakfast, when Sonja abruptly asked if she was a Traitor.

While Diane and Anthony did draw attention from the group with their own tactical behaviour, Sonja received an overwhelming majority, with 15 votes, meaning she had been banished from the game.

As she made her exit, gasps filled the room when Sonja confirmed that she was a Faithful, saying: ‘Well guys facts are important to me as they are to you, so here’s a fact I would like to confirm to you, and that is that I am a Faithful.’

The numbers will likely shoot up further on iPlayer over the coming days as many that would have been watching live could have instead been tuned into the PDC World Darts Championship featuring phenomenon Luke Littler .

It is a significant increase on the numbers watching last year’s opening episode, which hit 2.9million viewers.

Series two’s opening episode was also second highest overnight rating yet for the show overall – only slightly less than the series one final.

That final was watched by 3.3million as the show came to a dramatic conclusion.

The hotly-anticipated series returned to screens on Wednesday night with Claudia Winkleman as host for a second series.

Already fans were left in turmoil after having to choose what to watch between The Traitors and the World Darts Championship final.

The Traitors continues on Friday at 9pm on BBC One. The third episode is already available to view on BBC iPlayer.
