Actor Thomas Guiry, best known for playing the role of Scotty Smalls in the 1993 comedy The Sandlot, was arrested earlier this month in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in connection with a series of violent incidents involving his neighbor.

Officials with the Horry County Sheriff’s told TMZ that Guiry was taken into custody June 2 in connection with assault, disorderly conduct and malicious damage.

Surveillance footage of the incident published by the outlet showed Guiry launching a dumbbell estimated to weight 35 pounds at the window of a white Jeep in his neighbor’s driveway, cracking the windshield.

In another clip published on the site extracted from the neighbor’s doorbell cam, Guiry was seen appearing upset at he stood shirtless at the entrance of the neighbor’s home with a knife in hand.

Police told the outlet that when they arrived to a disturbance call, Guiry was positioned in the middle of the street asking about his wife.

His neighbor commented, ‘Really? My window’s been shattered,’ at which point Guiry promised to compensate the neighbor for the damage to the vehicle, according to police.

Guiry told the neighbor, according to law enforcement officials, ‘That sucks man, I’ll pay you back, I’m sorry, I’m gonna get you back.’

Guiry also admitted on the spot that he was responsible for the damage, saying, ‘I did it. I’m sorry man. I’m coming back to get you … I … sorry brother, I’ll pay you back.’

Guiry has had past brushes with the law, as he was taken into custody in August of 2013 in connection with felony assault on a police officer after he headbutt a police officer at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport, TMZ reported at the time.

In the incident, police told the outlet that Guiry had become hostile after a United Airlines employee said he was too intoxicated to let onto a flight.

Police told the outlet that the officer told him he could be taken to a drunk tank facility or be arrested in connection with public intoxication.

Guiry snapped on the officer, trying to kick him and then making impact with a headbutt, at which point he was taken into custody, police told TMZ.

Guiry was subsequently transported to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center and released June 3 on bond of $1,000 bond, Page Six reported.

His role in The Sandlot spawned the film’s trademark line, ‘You’re killing me, Smalls,’ said in the motion picture by actor Patrick Renna’s character Ham Porter.

Following The Sandlot, which he appeared in at the age of 11, Guiry has continued to act throughout the years. 

His most notable projects outside of the baseball film include the 2001 film Black Hawk Down and 2003’s Mystic River, as well as appearances on multiple Law & Order episodes.

Guiry played himself in a 2022 comedy titled Killin Smallz which featured Goodfellas stars Tony Darrow and Joseph D’Onofrio.
