Fire crews are battling an ‘out of control’ blaze in Sydney’s south-west as bushfires rage across the state.

The fire started at a property on Montpelier Drive in The Oaks, north-west of Picton, on Monday and is threatening to spread east towards Sunnyside Road.

The area has been under a total fire ban after the fire danger rating was elevated to extreme.

Eight hectares of bushland have already been engulfed by the blaze, with the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSWRFS) describing it as ‘out of control’.

Footage of the fire shows firefighters on the scene attempting to control the grass fire as it threatens nearby farm-land.
