Fans were left furious over the season two finale of The Last Of Us – with some labeling the episode as ‘garbage.’
The second season came to an end with a major cliffhanger over the character of Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and her fate following a shocking confrontation with Abby (Kaitlyn Dever).
The finale kicked off by following Ellie as well as Jesse (Young Mazino) and Dina (Isabela Merced) on their third day in Seattle – as Ellie continued her hunt for Abby to avenge Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) death that occurred in episode two.
The seventh episode – which is titled Convergence – built up to an explosive few minutes, leaving more than one character dead and questions left unanswered.
However, viewers were less than thrilled with the finale, with some slamming its pacing and others simply calling it ‘trash.’

The pair then have a conversation about how Nora gave a hint about where Abby is by giving two words: Whale and Wheel.
Ellie admitted that it had been ‘easy’ to hurt Nora to gain the information, but told Dina that she did not kill her.
She then reveals to Dina that Joel had killed everyone in the hospital that she had been held at before going to Jackson – and said one of the doctors had been Abby’s father.
Dina is overcome with emotion upon the revelation, and the next scene cuts to both Ellie and Jesse packing up before venturing outside in war zone Seattle.
While Dina stays behind, Ellie and Jesse leave to go find Tommy (Gabriel Luna) – and Jesse tells Ellie that he knows Dina is pregnant with their child.
The two end up taking shelter inside a run down parking garage but quickly hide and witness soldiers capturing a Seraphite.
Ellie is left angry that Jesse prevented her from stepping in to help the young man, but Jesse tells her that he needs to stay alive.
When the pair take refuge inside a library where Tommy was supposed to be, they hear gunshots and go to the rooftop. Ellie sees a Ferris wheel and understands that is what Nora told her in order to locate Abby.

Ellie gets a boat to follow them, hoping to also find Abby, and ends up on an island as the storm worsens.
She is then captured and was about be killed by the Scars when a horn is heard in the distance – and they all leave Ellie behind.
She ends up returning to Seattle via her boat and sees a building on the pier that has drawings of whales.
Ellie goes inside and comes across Mel (Ariela Barer) and Owen (Spencer Lord) and overhears their conversation about Abby. She kills them both but then discovers that Mel had been pregnant.
Tommy and Jesse find Ellie and bring her back to the theater. At one point, Jesse and Ellie are left alone and suddenly hear gunshots inside.
They both run to find where the commotion is and Jesse is immediately shot in the head, instantly killing him.

Abby is then seen holding a gun towards Tommy who was also laying on the floor, and Ellie drops her weapon – begging Abby to not shoot Tommy.
Abby recognizes Ellie and brings the gun up and points the weapons towards Ellie. A gunshot is heard as the screen goes black – leaving viewers wondering if Abby had pulled the trigger and shot Ellie.
The scene then jumps to Seattle Day One from Abby’s point of view – which concludes the finale episode.
During an interview with Deadline, Bella Ramsey discussed their character of Ellie – and the need to avenge Joel’s death.
In regards to the final scene, Ramsey told the outlet, ‘I mean, when she comes running and sees Abby, and Abby’s holding the gun to her, that scene was so complicated to film, emotionally, for me…

The third season will possibly follow Abby’s perspective leading up to the confrontation in the season two finale – which Bella also addressed while recently talking to Variety and said that they could have a smaller role.
‘I haven’t seen any scripts, but yes, I do expect that. I think that I’m going to be there, but not a whole bunch. We’ve had conversations about that. I sort of have a rough idea of what it’s going to be, but I can’t tell you.’
