Jim Carrey fans have commended the actor for his improvisation skills in iconic Christmas film How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

The actor, 61, is well-renowned for his portrayal of Dr Seuss’ Grinch in the festive 2000 movie.

While there are memories from the book and the film etched into our memories, not all of them were part of the screenplay written by Peter S. Seaman and Jeffrey Price.

The writers packed their script full of comedic punchlines, but Jim didn’t necessarily follow it word for word.

Fans were thrilled to learn that one of the most iconic scenes of the grumpy green Scrooge like character was made up on the spot by the comic.

In the famous scene, the actor can be scene preparing for a ‘Holiday Cheermeister’ after being invited last minute.

Complaining of his diary filled with staring into the abyss, wallowing in self pity and solving world hunger, the Grinch is to busy to find an outfit.

In a moment of desperation, he turns to a tablecloth to solve his fashion problem, swiping it away a table cloth from a surface filled with items – and then storming back to push everything onto the floor – table included.

The grumpy Christmas hater then poses in front of the mirror inside his home Mount Crumpit, dressed in only a makeshift skirt – made from the tablecloth.

When his trusty dog and sidekick Max, barks The Grinch quips: ‘It’s not a dress its a kilt. Sicko,’ before furiously ripping the tablecloth away.

But, this was not how the scene was initially meant to be played out – the not-so-festive being was meant to make a complete mess when ripping away the tablecloth.

Instead the Mask actor, unintentionally took the table cloth away without disturbing a single item on the table.

However, he didn’t opt to reshoot, he improvised the entire scene – making more of a mess in true Grinch style.

Commenting on the short clip shared to YouTube, move fans hailed the scene as ‘one of the best’ to this day.

‘That’s why it’s one of my favourite scenes, as it’s still such in his character to do,’ one quipped.

‘This is literally, “task failed successfully.’

‘He should have gotten an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.’

‘The table falling like that really really added everything together perfectly.’ another chimed.

Jim candidly explained to Entertainment Tonight that he thought on his toes quite a bit whilst filming many moments of the Christmas classic.

He said: ‘Like the moment of the behind the screen dressing thing that was not a planned thing.

‘It was, just you know, I just thought it’ll be funny to just have this monster transformation that you want to see how it turns out.’
