Christmas is over, the fridge is bare again and the nights are still long – it can be easy to see January as a dull, dour month.
But it’s not all doom and gloom as we enter the new year.
A poll has sought to find the things we like most for beating the blues this winter.
Snuggling up with a blanket on the sofa was hailed as one of the best things about this time of year by 43 per cent of those asked.
Warming up with a hot mug of tea and enjoying snow were both voted as winter winners by 36 per cent of participants.

Meanwhile JOMO (the joy of missing out) where people choose to stay in and relax rather than attending social events was popular with 34 per cent of those polled.
The research was conducted by luxury ski resort company Club Med.
Nicolas Bresch, from the firm, said: ‘There is something incredibly cosy about winter, from the feelings it can conjure up to the activities synonymous with the season.’
The poll of 2,000 Britons found 30 per cent love getting into their pyjamas as soon as they get inside.
And despite the often sub-zero temperatures, 30 per cent also say it’s their favourite season.
Some 30 per cent also get a kick out of wearing fluffy socks and slippers, while 29 per cent think one of the best things about winter is enjoying clear, bright mornings.
On the other hand, 13 per cent confess their favourite thing about winter is getting away from it all by escaping on a holiday instead.
Mr Bresch said: ‘Whether to grab some winter sun or to truly embrace the cold by heading to a snowy alpine setting, winter is a great time to take a break from the monotonous cycle that we can sometimes find ourselves in during the winter months in the UK.’
Of the Britons who prefer a winter break over a summer holiday, 61 per cent also find that luckily, the rest of the family feels this way too.
Some 45 per cent opt for a city break, while 41 per cent prefer a beach holiday and 23 per cent put a ski trip at the top of their list.
