The Block newlyweds Kristian and Mimi have confessed that appearing on the Channel Nine renovation show put a serious strain on their marriage.

The Adelaide pair have admitted it was during this week’s Hallway Week, dubbed ‘Hellway week’ by Blockheads, that things came to breaking point.

The week is perhaps the most intense challenge teams have to face on the renovation show as they must complete the most tasks.

In an interview with TV Week, the pair described their time on the show as ‘the ultimate test’ for their marriage.

‘The competition was becoming so overwhelming that to try to juggle all the tasks – and the fact that we couldn’t agree on one thing – meant it got really bad,’ Kristian, 31, told the publication.

‘We couldn’t get our priorities straight. It was really hard,’ Mimi agreed.

Elsewhere in the chat, Kristian said his experience on the show triggered his emotions.

‘I’ve had a problem with anger in the past,’ he explained.

‘But I’ve calmed down quite a bit over the years. The fact that that side of me came out again shows just how difficult The Block really is.’

At one point during Hallway Week, the electrician can be seen throwing down his phone and punching a fence after Mimi hangs up on him over a disagreement.

And Mimi had some advice for other married couples who are considering signing up for The Block: ‘It’s really tough [and it’s] the ultimate marriage test – don’t do it.’

It comes after The Block’s Jesse and Paige recently revealed why they decided to call off their wedding after leaving the Channel Nine show.

The couple, who were dubbed series ‘villains’ and exited in September after producers intervened during a heated argument, opened up to Woman’s Day on Monday about their nuptials being postponed.

The Blockheads’ wedding was set for December, but has now been cancelled due to the ‘very hectic’ year they have had being on the show.

Paige, 28, explained that they needed more time to plan the special day after their busy year.

‘The year has been very hectic and we just didn’t have the mental capacity to give the wedding the attention it deserves,’ she said.

Her fiancé Jesse, 30, added that pushing back the wedding was a matter of focus.

‘For us, it’s not just about a wedding, it’s about actually getting married to each other. And we felt we couldn’t put our full focus into it with how the year’s gone so far,’ he said.

The couple also insisted that they came away from their chaotic time on the show stronger than ever.

‘Our relationship was never in question. But we can totally understand why people think that,’ Paige admitted.

Paige and Jesse announced they had called off their wedding late last month in a heartfelt note sent to their guests.

The engaged couple sent their wedding guests a sad note revealing the ceremony was off.

‘Dear friends and family, life, in its unpredictable course, has presented us with unforeseen circumstances that has led us to postpone our upcoming wedding on 12 December,’ the note began.

The pair added they had decided it was not the right time for them to exchange vows and were postponing the event for a later, unspecified, time.

‘While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating our love and commitment with you all, we believe it is essential to acknowledge when a moment is not right. This year, it is not.

‘We extend our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience and disappointment this news may bring. A new date for our celebration is unknown at this time, but we will keep you abreast of any rescheduling.’

The couple’s stint on the show was marked by infighting and bickering, as they continually – and loudly – disagreed on effective home renovation strategies.

After seeking professional help, the couple cited mental health stress as they gave up their place on the competition, with their exit prompting conversation about the show’s care policies.
