The Block 2023 stars Kristy and Brett Beames are not holding back when it comes to their thoughts on the latest instalment of the popular renovation reality series.

The couple, who gained a reputation as last year’s most controversial contestants, have launched their own social media series dissecting The Block 2024.

In a recent episode, the former contestants took aim at the hotly-anticipated 20th anniversary series as they didn’t shy away from slamming it as ‘boring’.

‘If I’m honest, I’m bored s**tless and I’m struggling at the minute,’ Kristy declared, bluntly expressing her disappointment. ‘Bring back the drama, I say.’

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, Kristy also criticised the cast for being overly concerned with how they’re portrayed on screen, leading to a lack of authenticity.

‘Most of the contestants seem concerned about how they’ll be perceived on TV, so we’ve got a bunch of people trying to be something they’re not,’ Kristy claimed.

‘It’ll become exhausting, so we hope it changes in a few weeks.’

She also didn’t hold back from critiquing the producers for picking the cast, claiming it has seen ratings trail off.

‘It was an opportunity for The Block to double down on a really successful ratings season, yet they’ve dropped the ball casting personalities like this,’ she added.

Kirsty also said she disagrees with Paige and Jesse’s being branded the 2024 ‘villains’ due to their bickering, insisting she doesn’t believe they are the real troublemakers.

Instead, she thinks Grant – who is competing with his partner Courtney – has been flying under the radar as she shared the one moment which proves his ‘villain’ status.

‘The way Grant spoke to his builder saying, ”If you think you’re smarter than me, that’s the problem,” really showed his true colours,’ Kristy revealed.

Grant, who has heavily featured in recent episodes, shocked viewers when he made the bold decision to fire his builders after learning they had complained to Foreman Dan and McCafé barista Tina about not being paid.

The business development manager wasn’t having any of it and swiftly told the tradesmen to leave the site, claiming they’d already been paid and accusing them of going behind his back.

It is not the first time Grant has come under fire as one of the tradies on The Block’s 2024 series recently claimed he was the hardest person to work with.

One builder claimed he ‘hated’ working with Grant, telling Daily Mail : ‘Courtney and Grant were pretty cut throat during their time in Phillip Island.’

‘It is fair to say that every house has their ”villain”, with the girls admitting themselves that the 2024 season has a certain type of power dynamic in terms of the way they assert themselves,’ they added.

A long-standing producer also confirmed that the show’s tradesmen were forced to deal with ‘poor communication and some childish behaviour’ across the board.

‘The tradies this year will tell you that House One (Paige and Jesse), House Two (Courtney and Grant) and House Three (Ricky and Haydn) were the most difficult to work with,’ they claimed.

‘There were ongoing issues throughout those builds in Phillip Island. With tradesmen pointing out “poor communication and some childish behaviour”.’

‘The builders were treated quite poorly and you could tell it affected the mood on set,’ they added.
