A Tesla was obliterated in a horrific crash that killed a male and female passenger – but a baby was found still alive in the debris.
Authorities responded to the gruesome scene in the early hours of Monday, April 7, after reports that the Tesla Model 3 had crashed off the side of a highway in Chino, California, a city in Los Angeles County.
Law enforcement found that the car had traveled up on a dirt embankment off the side of the road and was destroyed.
It’s unclear what led to the single-car collision, but at least one person inside the Tesla was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, California Highway Patrol said in a press release.
The baby was found alive in the debris after they were thrown from the vehicle.
The witness who reported the crash told the CHP they had heard a baby crying but didn’t see a child in the Tesla.
‘For unknown reasons, the driver of the Tesla lost control of the vehicle, collided with the center divider wall, traveled up a dirt embankment and was pronounced deceased at the scene,’ CHP wrote in a press release.
Another adult passenger survived and both were transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, Massiel De Guevara, a spokesperson for the Chino Valley Fire District confirmed to DailyMail.com.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office identified one victim as Jacqueline C. Perez, 23. Perez was a resident of La Puente, a city in East Los Angeles.
A second male victim also died in the crash, but his identity has not been released to the public.
It’s currently unknown how the four passengers were related to one another.
CHP did not confirm if Perez or the male victim in the crash were driving during the incident.
A funeral home announcement said Perez was, ‘full of promise and had a heart full of love for others.’
‘Known for her kind spirit and determination to help those in need, Jacqueline’s untimely death has left an indelible mark on her family and the Riverside community,’ the announcement continued.
There were no other vehicles involved, and the Tesla appeared to roll over traveling westbound on the freeway.
The crash occurred around 2 am and authorities closed the westbound lanes of 60 Freeway until 5:30 am.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing and authorities have yet to announce the extent of the infant or the other individual’s injuries.
DailyMail.com reached out to CHP for an update on the investigation but didn’t immediately hear back.
