The new weapon includes a small FPV drone which contains a thermite bomb that when ignited drops a torrent of white-hot shards on its target.

The chemical mixture of aluminium powder and iron oxide ignites at temperatures exceeding 2,200 degrees Celsius (4,000 degrees Fahrenheit), and is capable of melting through steel, making it a highly effective demolition device.

And thermite munitions could also be used to destroy Russian artillery batteries, armoured vehicles and other military hardware nestled in the forest.

Shocking footage of the new weapon shows the molten metal being sprayed on an wooded area in eastern Ukraine in which Russian forces were allegedly hiding.

Russian missiles have continued to batter Ukraine. Last week, Russia struck a military training centre and a nearby hospital in a central region of Poltava.

It appeared to be one of the deadliest carried out by Russian forces since the war began more than 900 days ago on February 24, 2022 – with 41 reported casualties and over 180 people injured.

Two days after the attack on September 5, Putin claimed at the 2024 Eastern Economic Forum that he would considered fresh peace talks with President Zelensky.

The Russian President said China, Brazil or India could act as mediators.

Previously, Russia has insisted that any peace talks with Ukraine would include the annexation of occupied Ukrainian territory which is redline for Ukraine who as been steadfast in not giving up any of its territory.
