A teenager who was involved in a 100mph ‘hit-and-run’ crash with a car that was being chased by police is in a coma after having his leg amputated.

The boy, who has been named locally as Kayden, 17, was rushed to hospital after the horror crash happened in Bradford, West Yorkshire, on Monday night.

A horrifying video, seen by , showed a casualty lying in the middle of the road with their arms outstretched as a group of men gathered around. The grisly footage then showed a severed lower leg just metres away.

Family friend Michaela Petty posted on a Go Fund Me page that Kayden had gone to Tesco with friends, when a car sped through red lights at 100mph and hit him.

The fundraiser has currently gathered more than £10,500 – with a message from his mother Carole Womersley thanking everyone for their generous donations.

In a message from her to Michaela, which was shared on the page, she said: ‘Will you please thank everyone from the bottom of my broken heart.

‘Everyone’s absolutely amazing and I’ve no words honestly. Happy tears only.’

West Yorkshire Police say officers spotted a speeding car in Bradford at around 8.25pm, turned around to chase it but the motor was ‘out of sight.’

They then came across Kayden on Halifax Road, who was believed to have been hit by the suspect vehicle, which had failed to stop at the scene.

The teenager was then taken to nearby Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), where he is currently in a ‘critical condition’ and in a coma, due to his injuries.

Kayden, who is autistic, also had surgery twice and one of his legs has been amputated up to his thigh.

Michaela said: ‘Kayden is still in hospital, in a coma and still in a critical condition due to his injuries.

‘He’s been in theatre twice for major life changing operations, which one led to him having to have his leg off up to his thigh.

‘Carole’s family and friends all count there lucky stars Kayden is still here today.

‘However he will have to be in hospital for weeks until he recovers it’s going to be one hell of a journey for his family and friends.’

A family friend today said Kayden’s mum Carole is by his side in hospital.

They said: ‘Kayden is currently in an induced coma in the LGI with his mum Carole by his side.’

Yesterday a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

Another man, also 33, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but have all been bailed pending further enquiries.

West Yorkshire Police has voluntarily referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
