A 16-year-old Florida girl has been charged with shooting her baby-faced boyfriend at point-blank range while they posed for photos with a gun.
Jamalyse Alvarez was arrested without incident on Wednesday, more than a week after she fatally shot her boyfriend, David Anthony Vargas Acker, also 16, around 1am July 30.
Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said David brought the gun to the home at 1100 block of Easton Street, where the couple and their friend were pointing and posing with the revolver.
During the ‘gun play,’ Alvarez reportedly pointed the gun at her boyfriend before pulling the trigger shooting him dead.
Detectives secured an arrest warrant for the girl, as per the State’s Attorney’s Office. She is now being charged as a juvenile, and facing one count of aggravated manslaughter of a child, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office told DailyMail.com.
She was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center, officials said.
David was the fourth of six children. His heartbroken parents want justice for their son. His mother, Veronica Acker said, he was the ‘glue that kept this family together,’ Fox35 Orlando reported.
After the shooting, David was transported to the hospital where he later died.
‘Just feels like a nightmare, and we want to wake up from it,’ Veronica wept as she spoke to local Fox35 Orlando.
His father David Vargas was barely holding it together.
‘I haven’t eaten in three days,’ he said. ‘Can’t stop crying. I wake up crying, go to sleep crying. They practically had to drag me to my bed yesterday.’
The family said that their son was planning to graduate early and work as a contractor alongside his father.
Adrianna Acker, one of David’s sisters created a GoFundMe to help her family in their time of grief and despair.
‘Our baby brother David Vargas was taken from us on July 30, 2024 due to gun violence,’ Adrianna wrote.
‘He was only 16 and had so much more life ahead of him. He was always so full of joy. David brought laughter, happiness and light into every room he entered. He had so much love to go around.
‘This tragedy has left a huge void not only in our lives, but everyone who had the privilege to experience David.
Adrianna said that the money raised will go towards her brothers funeral and the legal fees since her brother’s death is still under investigation.’
‘Parents- Hug your children, tell them you love them. Tomorrow is not promised,’ she wrote.
As of Monday afternoon, more than $16,700 was raised towards their goal of $20,000.
