Millions of ns are being urged to prepare for thunderstorms and heavy rain, as a powerful wet weather system sweeps across the country in the coming week.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast rain for much of ‘s east coast, stretching from central Queensland down to Tasmania.
Severe thunderstorms are expected in Queensland, New South Wales, the n Capital Territory, and Victoria, potentially bringing heavy rain, damaging winds, and hail.
Mr Hines explained Tuesday would remain relatively dry before wet and stormy weather develops in the evening.
Sydney and Canberra are expected to experience wet weather for the rest of the week, with rain and showers predicted to continue until next Monday.
Rain is also forecast for Melbourne on Wednesday.
The cold front and linked trough will cross NSW into southern Queensland on Thursday, bringing showers, storms and gusty winds.
Meanwhile, shower and thunderstorm activity is expected to increase across the tropical north this week, particularly northern Western and the western Top End.
A tropical low currently situated over the northern waters of Western is expected to remain stationary, with a low likelihood of developing into a tropical cyclone starting Thursday.
Another tropical low may form near the Kimberley coast starting late Thursday, with a low likelihood of intensifying into a tropical cyclone from Friday onwards.
‘Regardless of tropical cyclone development, these tropical lows have the potential to bring significant rain, wind and wave impacts to the northern WA coastline later this week, or next week,’ BoM said.
