alert-–-sydney,-melbourne,-brisbane-weather:-brutal-heatwave-warning-after-severe-storms-lashed-australia’s-southeastAlert – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane weather: Brutal heatwave warning after severe storms lashed Australia’s southeast

Chaotic storms that drenched parts of southeastern with over 100mm of rainfall are set to be followed by an intense heatwave this week.

While the worst of the wet weather is expected to ease in Victoria, a large rain band could bring thunderstorms to inland parts of Queensland and New South Wales as well as the state’s Central Coast and Sydney.

Some rain may linger in NSW’s north-east before the system clears by Friday with strong heatwave conditions to cause large parts of inland to sweat.

Parts of the western Kimberley and the Interior in Western and western South are set to see severe heatwave conditions from Tuesday.

Low-intensity heatwave conditions are forecast through northern Cape York Peninsula in Queensland, parts of southern Northern Territory, parts of the Pilbara and the Kimberley in WA, northern SA and southwest Queensland.

Isolated parts of far eastern Victoria and adjacent NSW, northeast NSW and parts of southeast Queensland will also be affected by the hot weather.

Weatherzone’s Anthony Sharwood warned summer storms will likely persist with the unstable weather patterns seen in large parts of northern and eastern last week set to continue into early December.

‘The coming week’s rainfall totals may not be as extreme as last week’s in many places, but it’s definitely set to be another active week of stormy weather – and not just in the tropics and eastern ,’ Mr Sharwood said.

‘Indeed there were already active storms on Monday morning in Central , far western Queensland and some fairly arid parts of South .’

The meteorologist explained the unpredictable weather is largely due to a series of low-pressure and high-pressure troughs interacting and above-average sea surface temperatures in ‘s northwest and southeast.

The increased rainfall combined with scorching temperatures has seen the Australasian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council (AFAC) warn several communities they will be at an elevated bushfire risk this summer.

Large areas of the NT and Victoria, as well as parts of NSW, WA and SA, have been urged to start preparing for a rough bushfire season.
