Awarded the top spot for the best beach in America this week, Florida’s Siesta Key Beach is believed to offer surprising health benefits for those visiting the luxurious coastal enclave.
Renowned for its powdery white sand and breathtaking views, Siesta Key Beach, nestled along Florida’s Gulf Coast, allegedly goes beyond its natural beauty, offering something even more extraordinary – a natural source of healing energy.
Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards: Best of the Best Beaches for 2025 gave the stunning beach the highest ranking in the U.S. handing it the fourth best in the world accolade this week – a global recognition for the popular American getaway.
Unlike most beaches, the remarkably white sand found on the on the Sarasota shore is composed of 99 percent pure quartz crystal, which is believed to possess powerful healing properties.
One of the most abundant minerals on the planet, quartz is widely recognized for its abilities to conduct energy, reduce stress and promote physical and mental well-being – a common belief among spiritual healers.
For centuries, quartz crystals have been used for their abilities to amplify energy and promote relaxation.
Many holistic practitioners and energy healers believe that quartz can help balance the body’s natural rhythms, improving overall well-being.
Ancient legends suggest that the ‘healing’ quartz originated in the mythical underwater city of Atlantis, while others believe the crystal descended from the Appalachian Mountains.

Although the ‘healing’ evidence is mainly anecdotal, visitors of the top-ranking beach have reported healing benefits such as feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and more ‘at peace’ after spending time on its shores.
Exposing bare feet to the quartz-rich sand is also said to create a grounding effect, helping to clear the mind and relieve anxiety.
‘The quartz-crystal WHITE powdery sand between my toes and the warm Gulf waters keeps me returning to Siesta Key Beach,’ one beachgoer wrote on TripAdvisor.
Another wrote: ‘Siesta Key Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to. The 99 percent pure white quartz sand when dry is like powdered sugar.’
‘The white, fluffy sand is out of this world,’ another reviewed.
The beautiful beach is home to many urban legends as some healers have pointed to a decades-old, well-canopied tree, surrounded by heavy grass growth and growing about 60 feet from the coast, as an indication of the beach’s metaphysical vitality.
Others talk of a mysterious protection from hurricanes that they credit to either Indian blessings or a vortex of energy they say exists near the rumored Atlantis-crystal location.
The belief in Siesta Key’s concentration of energy has some scientific roots that can be documented – all linking back to the glorious sand.
Whiter than any other sand in the area, Sarasota’s most sought-after beach is also known for its, relative, coolness on the hottest of days.
Due to its pristine white color, the sand also allows for a stronger reflection providing a quicker tan for all of its visitors.
‘The sand is beautiful. This was our second time so we remember extra sunscreen as the white sand reflected so much on us last time that we were turned into a pair of steamed lobsters,’ another beachgoer wrote on TripAdvisor.
And, because of the way the sand has been whittled down, it is exceptionally soft and there is very little presence of particulate or shell matter. Some even say the sand is so fine it is ‘like sugar.’
Siesta Key is an eight-mile-long barrier island just off the coast of Sarasota. The astonishing beach has been awarded the top-ranking honor for several years and counting.
