alert-–-sunrise-viewers-reveal-the-one-thing-that-annoys-them-most-about-the-channel-seven-breakfast-programAlert – Sunrise viewers reveal the one thing that annoys them most about the Channel Seven breakfast program

Sunrise viewers have aired their thoughts on what annoys them most about the breakfast show.

A number of regular watchers of the program have posted to the Media Spy forums to say that they dislike the show’s liberal use of the term ‘breaking news’.

‘I hate that “Breaking News” looks exactly the same as the rest of the package. No point of difference, no urgency’ wrote one annoyed viewer.

‘I hate that “Breaking News” is now the most overused term in news media. I am old enough to remember the days when an anchor would say “Now to some breaking news” and the room would go quiet’ another wrote.

‘Now they throw to a reporter on scene for “breaking” news. How can it be breaking when you’ve already got a reporter on scene, photos, interviews etc. Laughable!’

Others pointed out that some of the “breaking news” items are older stories, such as the program’s report on the Japan Airlines Airbus A350 crash in Tokyo on January 2.

‘Yes it was laughable that the Tokyo plane crash was referred to as breaking news this week the morning after it happened. (One of many examples)’ one said.

‘True. You’d probably say DEVELOPING over BREAKING, but I’m sure they have data somewhere that says Breaking is more attention grabbing’ someone else agreed.

Despite the complaints, Sunrise has seen a ratings boost since Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington joined the Channel Seven show.

Seven bigwigs have now suggested they weren’t always convinced the 45-year-old former Olympian was the right choice to replace retiring veteran David ‘Kochie’ Koch.

Speaking to industry blog Mediaweek, Sarah Stinson, Seven’s director of morning television alluded to the network’s reservations.

‘We’ve been absolutely thrilled – and relieved,’ she said of the show’s continued ratings dominance.

They also revealed they’re delighted ‘Shirvo’ has clicked with co-host Natalie Barr.

‘He and Nat have such natural chemistry, and that’s come across on air,’ said Stinson.

While taking a few rare losses in the ratings against arch rival Today on Channel Nine in November, Sunrise is ended 2023 as ‘s most watched breakfast show.
