Glenn Close has had her fair share of memorable hairdos in her long movie career – from the wild curls of bunny boiler Alex in Fatal Attraction to the two-tone flicks of villainous Cruella de Vil.

And this week the 76-year-old American actress was sporting another startling look – albeit rather a more stylish one – with her shock of silver hair swept back.

In fact, she was the epitome of elegance in a simple Dior Haute Couture white silk gown paired with Rose Dior Bagatelle earrings in white gold and diamonds as she appeared at the Governors Awards, an offshoot of the Oscars which recognises figures who have made a long-lasting impact on the movie industry.

She was there in Los Angeles to present an honorary Oscar to Carol Littleton, the US film editor behind her second film from her 50-year career, The Big Chill. Ms Close has won three Golden Globes and been nominated for eight Oscars.

British stars bringing glamour to the red carpet on Tuesday night included Emily Blunt, Rosamund Pike and Carey Mulligan.

The 14th Governors Awards recognised and awarded honorary Oscars to actors who have made a long-lasting impact on the film industry.

Ms Close was in attendance to present a Governor’s Award to Carol Littleton, the American film editor behind her second feature film from her 50-year-long career, The Bill Chill.

Elsewhere British stars brought glamour and style to the red carpet with Florence Pugh and Emily Blunt seen laughing together and Saltburn’s Rosamund Pike joining Carey Mulligan.

Ms Pugh, 28, who starred in this year’s award season favourite, Oppenheimer, channelled a modern-day Marilyn Monroe with her famous peroxide pin-up curls.

The Don’t Worry Darling star wore a pale pink sequined gown by the LA-based designer Rodarte, founded by two sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy.

Her co-star, Emily Blunt, 40, appeared in a black diamante halter-style neckline dress designed by Miu Miu and she accessorised the dress with diamond jewellery from Tiffany&Co including statement earrings and rings.

Margot Robbie, 33, wore a very similar dress to Ms Blunt but the Barbie star’s black crystal halter-neck style dress was from the luxury French fashion house Celine.

The n actress, who also produced the film Saltburn, wore diamond jewellery from the New York-based designer Fred Leighton.

She was joined by her fellow Saltburn creator, the writer and director Emerald Fennell, 38, who was wearing a £3,345 black and diamante matching cape and gown from the British designer Jenny Packham.

With them was Carey Mulligan, 38, who starred in Saltburn and at the Governors Awards wore a black and white column gown also from Celine which featured a statement neckline.

The Pride and Prejudice actress won a Critics Choice Award for her role in Promising Young Woman, Ms Fennell’s first feature film in 2020, which sparked the writer and actor’s ongoing partnership.

101 Dalmatians star Ms Close is coming up to 50 years in the acting industry. Her first role was 1980’s World According to Garp which won her first Academy Award nomination.

Since then, the mother-of-one has won three Golden Globes and been nominated for eight Oscars and is set to star in a film based on the Finnish tale by Tove Jansson, The Summer Book.
