Amy Dowden looked in good spirits after attending rehearsals for the Strictly Come Dancing final.

The professional dancer, 33, has bowed out of this year’s series as she underwent chemotherapy following her breast cancer diagnosis.

However she has been supporting her fellow pro dancers every step of the way and made sure not to miss the dress rehearsals on Friday.

The dancer wore a black jumper with a matching skirt along with a white shirt as she departed Elstree Studios.

Joining her was fellow dancer Karen Hauer who donned a dark green coat over a grey jumper and a pair of leggings.

Eliminated contestant Jody Cundy cut a casual figure in  a black bomber jacket which he paired with a grey hoodie and slim-fitting jeans.

Appearing on Wednesday’s This Morning alongside Giovanna Fletcher, Amy credited the BBC show with saving her life but said her diagnosis has taken away what she ‘loves most’.

In 2021 Amy was paired with Giovanna’s husband, McFly frontman Tom Fletcher, during which she became close friends with his wife.

Giovanna happened to be organising a trek to Wales for breast cancer charity CoppaFeel! when someone pulled out at the last minute – and invited Amy to join them instead.

Amy confessed that the trip opened her eyes to the important of regularly checking her breasts for any changes.

She said: ‘It was an amazing group and one woman said she was walking because she lost her friend in her earlier twenties and I thought, hang on a minute, here I am trying to raise awareness and I don’t check myself.

‘Strictly literally saved my life pairing me with the Fletchers. I got to know my own chest and I knew something was wrong.

‘I did still go on my honeymoon – I found it the day before I went on my honeymoon and didn’t tell my husband.’

Amy and Giovanna are now planning another trip for the charity next year, which Amy said will feel like a ‘full circle’ moment.

She completed her course of chemotherapy in November but said her cancer journey is far from over.

The chemo caused neuropathy, meaning she temporarily lost feeling in her hands and feet, causing her to land on her foot at a strange angle and break her metatarsal.

She continued: ‘I’m taking every day as it comes. I though once I rang that bell I would be fine but it’s not been like that, I find it mentally a lot tougher now. The journey isn’t over yet.

‘I’ve had what I love the most taken away from me and I just find that so cruel.’
