alert-–-strictly-come-dancing-2023-results:-angela-scanlon-is-the-ninth-star-to-leave-the-show-after-facing-layton-williams-for-a-place-in-the-quarter-finalAlert – Strictly Come Dancing 2023 results: Angela Scanlon is the ninth star to leave the show after facing Layton Williams for a place in the quarter final

Angela Scanlon was the ninth celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing 2023 following Sunday’s dreaded dance off.

The TV presenter, 39, faced West End performer Layton Williams in the bottom two for a place in next week’s quarter final episode.

Angela narrowly missed out on a place in the quarters, after taking to the dancefloor to perform Cha Cha to I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor for the second time.

The star found herself at the bottom of the leaderboard during Saturday’s show and fans feared that she would be the next to leave the ballroom.

During the show, the remaining couples took to the Ballroom in the hope of impressing our Judges, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Head Judge, Shirley Ballas and the voting public.

Angela faced Layton and his professional partner Nikita Kuzmin, who performed an American Smooth to Magic Moments by Perry Como, originally scoring 34 points.

After watching both routines, the judges delivered the verdicts, as Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Layton and Nikita.

Craig said: ‘Technically for me personally, the better dance of the night, and the dance I actually enjoyed the most, was Layton and Nikita.’

Motsi Mabuse also opted to save Layton and Nikita, telling the couples: ‘Well this was certainly a tough, tough dance off. I based my decision on musicality and balance and that is why I will be saving Nikita and Layton.’

Making it three out of three, Anton Du Beke also chose to save Layton and Nikita.

He said: ‘Well I thought that was quite a tense dance off, I don’t think either couple danced as well as they can.

‘It was the closest dance off we’ve had in the series so far. This is the only thing, I saw an error from one of the couples, so I’m going to vote to keep in to the quarter-finals, Layton and Nikita.’

With three votes to Layton and Nikita, it meant they had won the majority vote and would be staying in the competition regardless, however Head Judge Shirley Ballas said she would have decided to save Angela and Carlos.

Shirley said: ‘Well important for me always when it comes to Ballroom and Latin is the character of the dance, that it’s true to the dance, timing and quality and I would have voted for Angela and Carlos.’

When asked by Tess about her time on the show, Angela said: ‘It’s been honestly incredible, I’m gutted, really gutted that it’s finished now, but it has been the most wonderful experience.

‘I have made the best friend in this man [to Carlos]. We have had so much fun, he is such an incredible guy. He has supported me and picked me up and made me laugh so much. I don’t know what to say, it’s been magical honestly – all of those people up there! My husband at home, my two little girls and all my friends!’

Her dance partner Carlos said: ‘Her commitment and her strength every day, day by day – I’m a professional dancer and she works so hard, harder than me! Look at her now – I am so proud, her sense of humour and we had so much fun everyday – she cracks me up laughing!’

The results show on Sunday night opened with a Hollywood glam, whodunnit-inspired routine from our professional dancers, plus a performance from Texas singing ‘Inner Smile’ with a fun and fabulous dance from Vito Coppola and Luba Mushtuk.

Angela failed to impress with her Cha Cha and may have been put off her stride as she was dealt a devastating blow before taking to the dance floor.

Despite enthusiastic routine Angela found herself with a score of 31 and at the bottom of the leaderboard.

According to bookmakers Ladbrooks Angela was priced at 7/4 to be eliminated next, going head to head with tennis champion Annabel Croft, 57.

Angela performed her disco inspired Cha Cha to Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive, but struggled to stand out from the crowd.

With just six left in the competition the TV favourite was picked up on the weight on her feet and ‘lack of hip action’.

The remaining five couples will take to the dancefloor next when Strictly Come Dancing returns for a Musicals special on Saturday 2nd December at 19:25, with the results show on Sunday 3rd December at 19:20 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
