Steven Knight has teased that the much-anticipated Peaky Blinders movie, The Immortal Man, will not be the end for the iconic drama.

It was confirmed in June that the Peaky Blinders original writing and directing team would be returning alongside Cillian Murphy, 48, for a Netflix film adaptation of the hit series.

And earlier this month, Cillian and Barry Keoghan, 32, were pictured together on the set of the upcoming movie as they wrapped production.

But now filming has wrapped, the creator of the iconic drama series, 65, has hinted another series could be coming fans way.

Jane Mulkerrins at Times Radio asked the British screenwriter this week whether they have a release date yet for the movie.

Steven then seemingly confirmed the movie will be released in a year’s time, he said: ‘It’s a bit too soon for that, but you know, you can sort of work out that it will be about a year.’

Jane followed up by asking Steven whether there are any more plans in place for Peaky Blinders’ beyond the movie.

To which he hinted: ‘Well, it’s interesting you should ask that question because the film is coming out, and that won’t be the end.’

Prying further, Jane asked: ‘Oh. So more TV series?’ and Steven confessed: ‘It won’t be the end, let me put it that way. I’m not saying none of it.’

In August, it was announced that Barry will feature in the upcoming movie but details of his character have not yet been revealed.

Fans of the show are eagerly anticipating the feature film after six seasons of the BBC show.

The epic continuation of the multi-award-winning gangster saga, set in the lawless streets of Birmingham in the 1900s, has been written by Steven, who will co-produce alongside Caryn Mandabach, Cillian, and Guy Heeley.

The streaming service confirmed the news on X with a photograph of the script, while the Oscar-winning actor told Deadline: ‘It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…’

‘It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.’

Director Tom shared: ‘When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive.’

‘Peaky has always been a story about family – and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.’

Peaky Blinders launched in 2013 and garnered huge audiences both in Britain and overseas, attracting roles for silver-screen stars such as Tom Hardy and Anya Taylor-Joy.

The show is loosely based on a real Birmingham gang of the same name operating from the 1880s to the 1920s who took part in similar illegal activities.

Peaky Blinders aired six series over nine years and ended with Tommy, who had been tricked into believing he had a terminal illness, surviving an assassination attempt orchestrated by his own nephew before killing him and moving away for a new life.

The hugely popular BBC crime drama, set in Birmingham during the city’s early 20th-century industrial revolution, ended its six-series run in 2022.
