alert-–-stephen-mulhern’s-beloved-saturday-night-itv-show-is-‘shelved’-in-huge-blow-to-starAlert – Stephen Mulhern’s beloved Saturday night ITV show is ‘shelved’ in huge blow to star

Stephen Mulhern has suffered a huge blow as his beloved ITV show In For A Penny has reportedly been axed.

The presenter, 47, is a familiar face on screen, having appeared on huge shows such as Dancing On Ice, Deal Or No Deal and Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

But according to The Mirror, a shock decision means his own fan-favourite Saturday night gameshow has been shelved after six series – but, bosses haven’t ruled out a potential return.

An ITV source told : ‘Whilst Stephen is busy filming other projects over the summer, In For A Penny continues to be a much loved format for ITV.

‘So don’t put your pennies away just yet as the team could be popping up in your local town, to challenge even more members of the public to take part in their unique and madcap games in the future!’

In For A Penny originally began as a segment on Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, before landing its own standalone show due to its popularity in 2019.

The unique series saw the host hit the streets of the UK with a portable gameshow that sees members of the public play along to win a cash prize.

Bizarre games included Pump It Up, which saw contestants attempt to fill up their car at a petrol pump to an exact number with two clicks.

Meanwhile, Check It Out was a game that was hosted at the tills of a supermarket – all contestants have to do is say whether one item of shopping is more or less expensive than the last.

Another segment called Mum’s The Word got those taking part to phone to their mother and describe a word to them to see if they can guess it.

But, the most important part of the show is the ending where the lucky participants have the chance to win £1,000.

The sixth series ended last month and saw the presenter jet off to Walt Disney World in Florida for the finale – it also saw the star travel to the likes of Manchester, Leicester, Bristol, Bournemouth, Glasgow, Wigan, Milton Keynes and Luton.

Fans on social media are unhappy with the reported shelving, taking to X, formerly Twitter, to vent their views.
