In 2020, Stella opened up about her sexuality in an interview with Advocate magazine, explaining she prefers to identify as LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and allied).
She explained: ‘I think LGBTQIA is all-encompassing. I did get some flack on social media for the A, which of course can mean asexual or allied.
‘Someone said, “Allied — are you kidding me?” And you know what? I am not kidding at all. I have so many heterosexual friends who are important allies of the LGBTQIA community.’

Speaking about what draws her to a partner, she continued: ‘I don’t know if I have a type. I just go with what I feel.
‘I certainly do not fall in love easily. I would say most people I date are my friends. I like spending time with people I, number one, am attracted to, and who I love spending time with.’
Stella previously dated actress Kristen Stewart, but the couple called it quits in 2019 after an on/off romance.
They began dating in January 2017, with the pair moving in together just five months later.
The duo reportedly called it quits in November 2018, with a source claiming: ‘They stopped seeing eye to eye and were living very different lives.’
They briefly reconciled the following year but the reunion was short lived.
Stella studied at the University of Otago where she was first discovered for her modelling talent.
She walked the runway at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2014, and she was made an official Victoria’s Secret Angel the following year.
