The body of a promising young law student has been found 24 hours after he went missing during a St Patrick’s Day event.

Nick Fish, 23, was last seen at around 7pm on Sunday after partying at the Box Hub venue on Washington Street in Glasgow.

He was at the Irish-themed gathering with friends and was believed to be wearing a green shamrock T-shirt.

Police and ambulance crews attended Washington Street on Monday at around 8pm where it was confirmed that the body of Mr Fish had been found.

Officers said they are currently treating the death as unexplained, but added that there are no suspicious circumstances.

A statement from Police Scotland said: ‘Formal identification has yet to take place.

‘His next of kin have been informed. The death is being treated as unexplained but not believed to be suspicious. Inquiries are ongoing.’

Tributes to Mr Fish were posted on social media, where he was described as a ‘chatty and friendly’ student who studied Scots Law with English Law at the University of Aberdeen.

Mr Fish was a member of the university’s rugby club, where he captained the men’s third team.

He graduated in 2023 and started studying for a further qualification in law at the University of Glasgow. The diploma he was taking is described by the university as ‘the next step towards a career as a solicitor or advocate in Scotland’.

A University of Glasgow spokesman said: ‘Everyone at the university, and particularly all at the law school, is deeply shocked and saddened by the news of Nick’s untimely death.

‘Our thoughts are with Nick’s family and friends at this most distressing time, as we offer support to staff and students who knew him.’

Mr Fish was last seen at the St Paddy’s All Dayer event at the 200-capacity Box Hub venue.

Box Hub declined to comment.

Originally from Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire, Mr Fish was described as a shining light in his community and ‘dearly loved’.

One local said: ‘Truly heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers are with Nick’s family just now and to all of his friends. He was a dearly loved and well thought-of young man and this has devastated them all.’

Another tribute said: ‘Shine bright Nick… forever 23.’

Mr Fish previously played a leading part in a fundraiser with some of his teammates from Aberdeen University Rugby Football Club, who he said had a ‘close connection’ with Movember – a charity moustache-growing campaign.

He wrote on his fundraising page: ‘I am doing Movember to raise awareness about such an important issue, especially with many people having such a tough year with everything that’s gone on.’

He added: ‘Movember is especially important to me as a few of my friends and family have been deeply affected through losing a loved one.

‘Men’s mental health is often not spoken about as much as it should be and the time has come to break the stigma and make change.’
