A 10-year-old boy has died after being crushed by a lift at a school for the disabled in Sydney’s north-west.
Emergency services were called to St Lucy’s School in Wahroonga at 2pm on Wednesday over reports of a child being seriously injured on campus.
Police officers from Kuring-Gai Police Area Command arrived to find the boy trapped under a lift.
Fire and Rescue services attempted to remove the boy however he died at the scene.
St Lucy’s accommodates both primary and high school students with autism, sensory impairments and mild to severe intellectual disabilities.

The student is believed to have been in a wheelchair, the Daily Telegraph reported.
The school was placed into lockdown shortly after the incident, with about 230 students from K-12 required to stay in their classrooms.
According to the publication, the school’s principal David Raphael notified parent’s of a ‘medical emergency’ at about 2.30pm, saying students being picked-up by either parent or taxi would be delayed.
Retrieval efforts were still underway when parents arrived to pick up their children, while other students were being taken home via taxi about 4.15pm.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and the boy’s parents have been notified.
NSW Police remain on campus and have set up a crime scene while a recovery operations remains ongoing.

A spokesperson for NSW Police said the incident is not an ongoing risk to the public or other students.
They also urged motorists to avoid the area after police sealed off access to Cleveland St between Billyard Ave and Stuart St.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
In a statement, the school announced it would be ‘closed to students until further notice’.
‘St Lucy’s School is very sad to confirm the tragic death of one of our students this afternoon,’ the statement reads.
‘We are cooperating with investigating police and are not able to make any further statement today.
‘We ask for privacy and space for our staff and families to grieve at this difficult time as we remember our beautiful student.’
