Shannen Doherty says she’s looking forward to ending a ‘turbulent’ year filled with ‘some massive health struggles, some massive personal struggles’ and ‘a lot of heartbreak and fear.’
Doherty, 52, speaking on her podcast Let’s Be Clear Monday, said that she was ‘just so thankful really to be here for it’ after battling cancer for eight years.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 star appeared on the holiday alongside her mother Rosa Doherty on her podcast, which she launched earlier this month.
‘This year is about just being incredibly grateful that we’re here, and we get to spend time with the people that are by our sides through thick and thin, who don’t walk away, who love us unconditionally, and that have the same beliefs and morals and standards and people who have character,’ Doherty said.
Doherty, who played Brenda Walsh on the Fox hit from 1990-1994 said she ‘even got to schedule [her] cancer infusions where [she] would be recovered completely from it for Christmas.’

Doherty was initially diagnosed in 2015 with breast cancer and in February 2020, said she had been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.
Doherty in June shared to social media a clip in which she headed for a surgical procedure to remove a tumor from her head taken on January 16, 2023.
Also in January, Doherty and ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko separated, and she revealed they were divorcing in April amid ‘irreconcilable differences.’
Doherty claimed Iswarienko, who she was married to since 2011, was unfaithful to her, which he has denied. Doherty had past been in two marriages: to Ashley Hamilton from 1993-1994, and to Rick Salomon from 2002-2003.
Doherty on Monday said that in spite of the series of obstacles, she was in a peaceful place, as 2023 has been ‘ending well’ for her.
‘With all of that, I have found… I was actually saying this to myself the other night, “God I think I’m actually starting to live the happiest version of myself,”‘ Doherty said.
She continued, ‘Even though it’s been such a contentious year for me, for some reason it just feels it’s gotten a lot lighter lately and a lot more positive.’
Doherty said that her heart had been ‘opening back up’ and that ‘next year’s going to be beautiful.’

On a lighter note, Doherty, who also starred on the series Charmed from 1998-2001, generated a bit of controversy with her new podcast after saying earlier this month that Alyssa Milano and her family sparked ‘a weird divide’ between her and Holly Marie Combs on the set of the WB show.
Doherty played the role of Prue Halliwell on 67 episodes of the WB show Charmed from 1998–2001, leaving after the third of the show’s eight seasons.
Combs, 50, said that producers told her that Milano had made an ultimatum that either she or Doherty leave the series, and threatened legal action claiming a hostile workplace environment.
She added: ‘There are actually people who behave badly and get away with it. I don’t think people understand that never happened here.’
