A former Los Angeles Police Department officer turned California’s largest legal marijuana farmer is slammed for growing massive amounts of pot as he calls on Biden to release prisoners in jail for weed charges.
Kyle Kazan, co-founder and CEO of Glass House Brands, said his company owns a 6 million square feet of greenhouse but does not even use half of that space to produce more than 600,000 pounds of weed a year.
He told Fox News: ‘I’ve never read about anybody in a US prison that’s anywhere close to that.’
Kazan has been a vocal advocate of releasing people serving prison time for nonviolent marijuana charges, frequently wearing a shirt that says, ‘No one should be in prison for a plant.’
On X, formerly known as Twitter, one user name Draco Velli criticized Kazan’s taking saying, ‘How many federal nonviolent cannabis prisoners pled down to those charges? How can you be sure they’re not lesser chargers for more serious crimes?’

The former cop said one time he flew to Augusta, Georgia to speak on behalf of a man being sentenced for three charges related to eight pounds of marijuana.
‘That’s what I point out, like the judge, the defendant, everybody could own – legally – my stock with a Charles Schwab account, right now, from the courthouse,’ he said. ‘And you’re sentencing this young man?
Others have slammed the ex-cop for his role in arresting people for nonviolent weed crimes.
‘People like this who gloat are not what this community needs but at the same time, this shows that police officers know the war on cannabis is a joke and needs to end,’ said another X user.
‘He should have known that before he started making millions on it. Facts didn’t change in the meantime, it was very much like this when he put people in jail for doing the same thing as he does now,’ said another user.
Kazan has been critical of the Biden Administration for the number of people incarcerated over nonviolent drug charges.
‘Mr. Biden, unfortunately, has not wavered in his commitment to keeping people in prison, unless you’re a famous WNBA player sitting in Mr. Putin’s prison. And I’m happy she’s home, and I’m happy that he went to bat for her,’ he said.
‘But you don’t have to trade away a merchant of death when you have this, and you just need 3,000 signatures to end it.’
In December, the president announced pardons of 11 additional inmates serving time for drug offenses, expanding his
On February 12, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Attorney General Merrick Garland missed a deadline to respond to 12 Senators urging the administration to de-schedule cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act.
‘THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO FAIL ITS CITIZENS! The DEA & The Attorney General missed the deadline for a cannabis rescheduling response so @ewarren & members of the Senate sent a letter urging the DEA to de-schedule cannabis. Unreal,’ Kazan said on X.
Despite Kazan’s advocacy for legalization of marijuana, his company Glass House Brands has been accused of being, ‘one of the largest, if not the largest, black marketers of cannabis in the State of California, if not the country,’ according to a lawsuit filed in June.

Despite Kazan’s advocacy for legalization of marijuana, his company Glass House Brands has been accused of being, ‘one of the largest, if not the largest, black marketers of cannabis in the State of California, if not the country,’ according to a lawsuit filed in June
The lawsuit, filed by 562 Discount Med which does business as Catalyst, accused Glass House of running a cartel like business of the marijuana industry.
They allege Glass House sells weed on the legal market as well as the black market using ‘burner distribution’ companies.
‘[Glass House] has purposefully structured its business so as to massively profit from the illegal sale of cannabis to the substantial financial detriment of legal operators,’ said the lawsuit.
‘GHB in fact is one of the primary drivers and financial beneficiaries of the illicit cannabis black market in California, and it currently is looking to further expand its illicit operations by adding significant new cultivation capacity at a time when the legal cannabis market is actually shrinking.’
The latest hearing in the lawsuit is scheduled for Tuesday and a non-jury trial is scheduled for October.
