A severed human foot has washed up on a beach in Mallorca, making it the latest gruesome find this year.

A tourist spotted the decomposed lower leg near a popular nightclub on the beach in Can Pastilla, near Playa de Palma, on Saturday morning, Spanish media outlets report.

The man notified local police, but by the time they arrived at the beach, a wave had pulled the severed foot back into the sea.

Divers were deployed and eventually found the foot as well as a tibia and a fibula off the shore.

A forensic doctor and the Spanish National Police took the remains for further examination.

This is the tenth gruesome find involving a body or body parts on or off the coast of the Balearic Islands – a popular destination with British tourists – since the start of the year.

On Friday, just hours before the foot was found, parts of a badly decomposed body of a woman were discovered floating around a mile off Can Pastilla.

It was first suspected that the foot belonged to the deceased woman, but investigators said that the severed foot, the tibia and fibula were too large and presumably belonged to a man.

An autopsy on the female body has been ordered. She has not yet been identified and police told local media that it is unclear how the woman died.

The woman is believed to have been a migrant on a boat. She was reportedly not wearing a life jacket when her body was found.

Two other bodies, believed to be of migrants, were in found in the Mallorcan towns of Cala Ratjada and Cala Deia.

Four bodies were found on Formentera, while a total of five were discovered on or off the coast of Mallorca since the start of the year.

A tenth body was detected on the coast of an uninhabited rocky island.

Spanish Police said it suspects that all victims were migrants that attempted to illegally enter Europe via a small boat or raft from Algeria.
