Sean Penn was obliterated on social media for comparing Donald Trump to a chaos-loving spouse-killer.
The leftist actor, 64, slammed Trump on The Jim Acosta Show podcast alongside Congressman Eric Swalwell on Thursday – saying the president reminds him of a murderer who ‘might try to destroy the world.’
Penn’s bold sentiments were sparked by Swalwell and Acosta discussing the future of all the people who ‘caved’ to Trump, including El Salvador’s president Nayib Bukele, when his presidential term is up.
The broadcaster and democratic politician said Bukele’s reputation could be damaged because of his close ties with Trump.
‘He should think twice about what the long-term future of El Salvador is if Donald Trump is no longer in power,’ Swalwell said.
Swalwell’s concern comes just after Bukele announced he is expanding El Salvador’s Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), the largest prison in the world, to fit migrants deported by Trump.
Bukele said his country has ‘offered the United States of America the opportunity to outsource part of its prison system.’
‘We are willing to take in only convicted criminals (including convicted U.S. citizens) into our mega-prison (CECOT) in exchange for a fee.’
Penn chimed into Swalwell’s spiel: ‘But before Bukele gets to that point where he’s dealing with another leader, we should consider worst case scenarios.’
‘And I do think it’s a reasonable theory that Donald Trump is not unlike the spouse of someone who leaves him, perhaps for another, who then murders their former partner because if they can’t have her, nobody can.’
The Oscar-winner took his aggressive stance a step further – asserting his belief Trump would wreak havoc on the world as a ‘power play.’
‘I think Donald Trump and his solipsism may have that relationship with the world and that this destruction is in part a power play,’ Penn said. ‘I think he might try to destroy the world before he ages out of life.’
Penn’s jaw-dropping statements about Trump triggered social media outrage, with hundreds of critics calling out the actor-activist.
‘Penn has absolutely lost his mind. Shut up and act you buffoon. My God!’ one X user shared.
‘Spoken like a true Communist Sympathizer,’ another boldly declared.
Someone chimed in: ‘Just another elitist actor with a better than thou attitude. Wonder what might show up is [sic] Sean was deeply investigated?’
‘Here we have another clueless liberal … the clown is demented,’ a passionate critic wrote.
One sarcastic user said: ‘Ah yes, Sean Penn—America’s foreign policy expert and part-time revolutionary—now moonlighting as a couples counselor for democracy.’
‘Sean Penn is the last person who should be creating fake analogies to smear Trump,’ another wrote.
While pinning Trump as someone who would harm a partner, Penn has previously found himself at the center of domestic violence rumors when he was married to popstar Madonna.
During their turbulent marriage in the 1980s, sensational claims surfaced that he tied her to a chair on one occasion and struck her with a baseball bat on another.
Both Madonna and Penn have staunchly denied he was ever violent with her, and she even testified on his behalf in a defamation lawsuit over the allegations.
But he did admit one of their disputes erupted in such disaster that a SWAT team had to swarm their home.
Penn has also faced backlash for dating Valeria Nicov, who is 30 years his junior.
Politically, the Mystic River star has been a vocal Trump opponent, once calling him ‘an enemy of mankind’ in a Time Magazine op-ed in 2018.
