A woman’s body has been found floating in the ocean at a popular beach near Melbourne.
The body was discovered by locals on Seaford Beach, off the Nepean Highway in Frankston, at 6.55am Friday.
Emergency services were immediately called to the scene where police quickly established a crime scenes.
A second crime scene has also been erected on a seperate beach south of the area where several items were found to have washed ashore.
Detectives are now trying to figure out if the items are related to the woman’s body.
‘A second crime scene is in place on Frankston beach front after a number of items were located,’ the spokesperson said.
‘Police are investigating whether they are linked to the death of the woman.’
The woman has yet to be identified and officers have said it is too early to determine whether or not the death is suspicious.
The woman’s body will be subject to a post-mortem examination in order to figure out her cause of death.
What appeared to be blood was also found amongst the sand near one of the crime scenes, 7News reports.
Detectives were seen going door-to-door questioning residents after the discovery, the publication stated.
