The HBO drama – which ran from 1998-2004 and stars Sarah, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis – will be added to the rival platform in early April as a co-exclusive with the show’s home streaming network Max (formerly HBO Max), according to The New York Times.

Netflix will stream all 94 episodes of the show but will not have both Sex and The City movies or the spin-off series, And Just Like That – which is set for a third season.
It is not known how much Netflix will pay to license the series – the licensing deal forms part of a content agreement the streaming service made with HBO parent company Warner Bros. Discovery last July – although SATC’s inclusion was not originally announced.
HBO previously shied away from licensing its original content to Netflix – but last year sent series including Six Feet Under, Band of Brothers and Ballers to the streamer – which saw the shows gain huge popularity once again.
The latest acquisition shows Netflix continues to dominate the ‘streaming wars’ and is so dominant the major studios have capitulated and are allowing the No1 platform to show their major releases instead of keeping them exclusively for their own channels.
The landmark moment effectively means that Netflix’s rivals have handed in the towel, with the major movie and TV studios who spent fortunes developing competitors – an estimated $5bn in the past year alone – admitting they will never topple the streaming giant.
