Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal have shared details about their characters in the psychological drama FOE.
The rights to the project between actress Saoirse, 29, and Normal People star, 27, was picked up in a massive deal worth over $30million by Amazon Studios in 2021.
It tells the story of husband and wife Junior and Hen who live on a secluded piece of land that has been in Junior’s family for generations.
Their life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger turns up at their house with a shocking proposal.
They are then forced to explore whether they want to risk their relationship and personal identity for a chance of survival in a new world.

And Oscar nominees Saoirse and Paul have spoken out in a bid to explain the marriage between their two characters.
In a new featurette, Aaron Pierre’s character Terrance can be heard saying: ‘I need to have an intimate understanding of your marriage. The good and the bad. It’s between you and me.’
Paul explains: ‘The first thing that jumped out at me when I read the script was the characters at the centre of the movie. It’s about a marriage and trying to rediscover each other.’
Saoirse continues: ‘Junior and Hen have created this life together that just consists of the two of them.
‘I think that’s started to take its toll, the monotony of that life.’
Paul adds: ‘The kind of break in routine is the arrival or Terrance with this crazy bit of news that Junior has been put on this shortlist to go to space.’
Aaron continues: ‘What drew Terrance to Hen and JR is how isolated their current living situation is and Hen’s willingness to explore, and experience things that are not common experiences.’
Writer, director and producer Garth Davis goes on: ‘Hen is really fighting to not only save her marriage but find agency in her own life.’

Saoirse continues: ‘Hen is this lost girl and the experience allows her to learn the most about herself.’
‘The experiment infects the marriage in a way that is manipulative and curious and unsettling,’ continues Paul. ‘I think through all of it, it’s just about Junior fighting to protect his marriage when he’s aware that something highly stressful is going to happen to it.’
Garth says: ‘It’s a mystery where you truly don’t know where it’s going. You think you’re watching this story but in fact the real story is something completely different.’
