Sainsbury’s has issued an urgent recall over two of its popular dinner items and warned shoppers ‘do not eat it’.

The Yorkshire Provender Jacket and Toast Topper Mexican Inspired Lentil Chilli and Yorkshire Provender Jacket and Toast Topper Haricot Beans in a Spicy Tomato Sauce have been recalled due to health concerns.

It was found that the items may contain peanuts but this is not mentioned on the packaging, making it a health risk for anyone with a peanut allergy. The recalled packs have a use by date of October 16, 2024.

The Food Standards Agency said: ‘If you have bought the above products and have an allergy to peanuts, do not eat them.

‘Instead return them to the Sainsbury’s store from where they were bought for a full refund.’

In a statement, Sainsbury’s said: ‘People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts may be at risk if they consume these products.

‘If you have purchased one of the affected products with these codes and you suffer from an intolerance to peanuts, please do not eat it.

‘Instead, please return the product to any Sainsbury’s store for a full refund or contact the consumer services team at: [email protected] / 0800 0014409.

‘No other products have been affected by this issue. Sainsbury’s would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.’

Co-op has also been forced to issue an urgent warning and recall its Co-op Smooth Brussels Pate because the product ‘may contain salmonella and listeria monocytogenes’.

The Food Standards Agency said that symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

The agency added: ‘Symptoms caused by listeria monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

‘Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.’

The supermarket and food health agency urged customers who have bought the pate to return it to their local Co-Op and ‘do not eat it’. Shoppers will get a refund or replacement and if they have any questions, they can contact the Co-op Customer Careline on 0800 0686 727.
