A man has been arrested after police discovered the body of a woman at a home following a reported ‘domestic incident’.
Emergency services were called to the home on Clements Street in Russell Lea, in Sydney’s inner west, just after 11am on Thursday.
Officers found a woman believed to be aged in her 50s, who is yet to be identified, dead at the scene.
It’s understood that her throat had been slit and she had other injuries to her upper body, the Daily Telegraph reports.
A 42-year-old man who was known to the deceased and understood to be her flatmate was arrested at the scene and taken to Burwood Police Station where he is assisting police with inquiries.
A crime scene has been established at the home which is being investigated by forensic police and detectives.
A number of items were recovered from the footpath as police cordoned off the scene.
A senior police officer described the scene inside the red brick house as among the worst he’d seen, reported the paper.
Police were seen door-knocking neighbours in the street on Thursday afternoon.
