Rachel Zegler has praised her Romeo & Juliet co-star Kit Connor as the duo promoted their Broadway production of one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays.
The duo play the titular star-crossed lovers at the Circle In The Square theatre in a modern adaptation of the tragedy.
During a joint interview on Today, Zegler, 23, and Connor, 20, gushed about working with one another, with the West Side Story star describing how much comfort she found in working with someone who makes her ‘feel held’ throughout the acting process.
‘I have such a deep respect for Kit and all of the amazing work that he has done in his very short time on Earth so far,’ she said, placing her hand on Kit’s shoulder.
‘It’s really wonderful to come work everyday and have somebody that you deeply, deeply trust because you are doing a live performance and as you guys know, doing things live is really scary. It’s very comforting to know that I have somebody who makes me feel held in that process.’

Despite playing one of the most legendary lovers in history, neither Zegler nor Connor were given the chance to meet one another prior to accepting the role.
But Connor said they have been incredibly fortunate to be able to get along so well.
‘It’s one of those things where going into it we hadn’t met and we both took the job without having met, and that’s always a scary thing… playing the most iconic couple probably of all time is going to be daunting as well but I think we’ve been so lucky, it’s been a really natural progression of just getting on really well,’ he explained.
