She wore an Oscar G Couture white dress with a plunging neckline and a sparkling nude turtleneck bodysuit to a New Year’s Eve party hosted at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.

But Lara, 41, who is married to Eric Trump, received heavy criticism on Instagram after she posted photos of the gown to her 1.6 million followers.

Now Project Runway star Oscar Lopez, who designed the controversial outfit, has claimed the backlash is rooted in jealousy.

He claimed he designed the dress with sensuality and elegance and worked closely with Lara to ensure it portrayed the right message.

Lara’s gown featured a long slit, which left her legs on full display, and it was blasted as being ‘trashy’ and ”disrespectful’.

‘Not classy at all,’ one user on Instagram wrote. While another said: ‘Huge fan, but Lara is beautiful and intelligent. You don’t have to show your body like that. Please be a little more conservative!’

Another added: ‘I’m a big fan of your work and dedication to this country but I feel like you could be getting better advice on styling. This is not something a future First Lady should wear.’

A fourth said: ‘No. Remember who you are, and dress accordingly. Your image is important, and so is your dignity.’

But designer Lopez has stuck by the controversial dress and claimed it stayed true to Lara’s confident personality.

‘It’s important to recognize that public figures often face differing opinions, especially if your last name is “Trump,” and each individual responds to such situations in their own way,’ he told TMZ.

‘In Lara’s case, this does not faze her in the least.’

He noted that fashion is a subjective matter and it invokes a range of reactions.

Lopez said Lara was happy to wear the final look and has not got any regrets with working with her.

He added that she was aware of the backlash but she was not impacted as she understands that being in the public eye comes with varying opinions.

Lara shared a video of her posing in the dress on Instagram with the caption: ‘Welcome to the party, 2024. (Totally insane dress by @realoscarlopez).’

Many members of the Trump family came together to celebrate the new year at the Mar-a-Lago club.

Lara’s partner of nine years, Eric, 39, Donald’s third son, opted for simple black tuxedo with a black bowtie.

During his speech at the celebration, Donald, 77, announced that Melania wasn’t able to make it because she was busy tending to her ‘very ill’ mother Amalija Knavs, 78.

He said Amalija was in a hospital in Miami and that Melania was by her side, adding that the situation had been ‘tough’ for their family.
