The Princess of Wales has hosted her first official work meeting in more than nine months as she begins her slow and measured return to public duties.

Catherine, 42, who last week revealed she had finished a course of preventative chemotherapy following major abdominal surgery in January, held a meeting at Windsor Castle today for her ‘Early Years’ project.

She was joined by members of her household team as well as representatives from her Centre for Early Childhood at Kensington Palace.

It was the first meeting noted in the Court Circular since the princess held a round table of her Royal Foundation on December 6 last year.

She hosted her annual carol service two days later and attended the annual family Christmas at Sandringham but was taken into hospital just weeks later for surgery.

Although she has worked from home a little, keeping in touch with her ‘passion projects’ and staff, as well as attending the men’s finals at Wimbledon and Trooping the Colour, yesterday marks a significant step forward in Catherine’s recovery.

It is unsurprising that she chose her Early Years project as her first major work event given how important it is to her personally.

Her Centre for Early Childhood looks at how the impact of what happens to children between the ages of birth to five has a direct link with some of today’s hardest social challenges, such as addiction.

She has vowed to highlight importance of the issues for the rest of her working life.

Last week the princess revealed that she had finished her course of ‘preventative chemotherapy’ and plans to undertake a ‘light programme’ of public engagements over the coming months,

However she also warned that it will be a slow return to full public duties as ‘doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus’ and admitted it has been a ‘scary and unpredictable’ time for her family.

Although future public engagements have yet to be announced, she does hope to attend Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph.

She will not accompany her husband to his Earthshot Prize awards in Cape Town in November.

Also in the court circular is a private visit Prince William undertook to 22 Special Air Service Regiment to meeting some of those who have been deployed on recent operations.

No further details can be given due to the secretive nature of the SAS work and missions.
