A man has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition following a major workplace accident. 

The incident occurred on a worksite in Portsmith in far north Queensland around 12.40pm on Tuesday. 

The man is believed to have got caught in an auger, a device shaped like a corkscrew that is commonly used on worksites to drill into pieces of wood.

He is believed to have sustained serious leg injuries as a result of the incident and was rushed to Cairns hospital in a serious condition.

A spokeswoman from the Queensland Ambulance Service told Daily Mail Australia the man was ‘transported to Cairns hospital in a serious condition’.  

The spokeswoman said he was reportedly ‘trapped in a piece of machinery at a worksite’. 

Daily Mail has contacted Worksafe Queensland for comment.

The incident comes just days after a crane ran over a man at a worksite in Queensland’s south-east. 

Emergency crews were called to a worksite in Beaudesert Boonah Road in Bromelton, about 80 kilometres south of Brisbane just before 7am on Wednesday October 18 following reports the man was run over by the crane. 

The man in his 40’s was rushed to Princes Alexandra Hospital in a serious condition after he suffered a major leg injury following the terrifying incident.
