Police are hunting for a knifeman after five people were stabbed at a party in south east London.
Officers were called after a fight broke out at a commercial property above a row of industrial businesses in Nathan Way following a music event in Thamesmead, south east London, in the early hours of this morning.
Five people had been stabbed and remain hospital, where their injuries are being assessed.
A spokesperson for the Met said: ‘Officers are investigating an incident in Thamesmead this morning, where five people were seriously assaulted.
‘Police were called at 4.19am on Saturday, 17 May, to Nathan Way, SE28 following reports of multiple people injured at an event.
‘Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and five people were located with stab wounds.
‘They were taken to hospital where their injuries are being assessed.
‘Inquiries are ongoing and a cordon will remain in place throughout the day. No arrests have been made at this stage.’
The attack is said to have taken place in a commercial rented space above an industrial building.
One man, who works close to the site, said: ‘There are spaces for rent upstairs and it happened in one of the places that are being rented out. It’s all commercial premises.
‘It is what it is. Obviously everyone hears the Chinese whispers that there was an injury on the roof but I don’t know if there is any truth in that.’
Another added: ‘There is a studio the landlord rents out.
‘The people come – personally I don’t like them, they are wearing unusual clothes, they are smoking weed, sometimes you can see from the smell that they are smoking weed. They have vodka or whatever they drink.’
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added: ‘We were called at 4.17am on Saturday 16 May to reports of a stabbing in Nathan Way, SE28.
‘We sent resources including ambulance crews, paramedics in response cars, an incident response officer, advanced paramedics and London’s air ambulance.
‘We treated three patients at the scene before taking them to hospital.’
It is understood that two other patients were taken to hospital by third parties.
A scrap metal worker, Nick, whose business is on Nathan Way, took to social media to say that there had been ‘multiple stabbings’.
He posted on Facebook: ‘The yard will be closed today. Overnight there has been multiple stabbings outside and subsequently the police have closed the road in both directions.
‘They have advised me that the road will be closed for the rest of the day. Apologies for the inconvenience, I hope to see you all again soon.’
