Sir Keir Starmer has insisted Rachel Reeves will remain Chancellor for ‘many years’ as he clashed with Kemi Badenoch over the economy, Tulip Siddiq’s resignation and the Chagos Islands ‘surrender’ at Prime Ministers’ Questions.
The Prime Minister came out swinging in the Commons this afternoon after he was asked by Ms Badenoch why businesses should trust his government over high borrowing costs, insisting the Conservatives were ‘economic vandals and fantasists’.
The Conservative leader also accused Mr Starmer of ‘surrendering’ the Chagos Islands and pressed him on whether any new tax rises would be brought in to address the public finances.
Questioned on whether the Chancellor was ‘qualified’ for the job, Mr Starmer added Rachel Reeves would in position ‘for many, many years to come’.
