The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly emerged as a potential destination for Daniel Jones, with the quarterback searching for a new team.

The 27-year-old Jones left the Giants midway through last season after a second straight campaign of disaster.

Jones asked to be released and joined the Minnesota Vikings for the remainder of the season, although ultimately didn’t play for the team as they made the first round of the postseason.

Now, it has been claimed that Jones could have an opening at the Steelers, according to Pittsburgh sports radio host Andrew Fillipponi.

He posted on X: ‘Source: There’s interest in former Giants QB Daniel Jones inside the Steelers organization.

‘Quote: ‘[The Steelers] could do a lot worse than Jones.’ With the belief he actually is a good fit for Arthur Smith’s offense. And Mike Tomlin’s preference for a mobile quarterback.’

The Steelers are, as it stands, without a quarterback on their roster. Both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are headed for free agency, although there are hopes inside the organization that one will be brought back.

It emerged earlier this week that the New York Jets hold an interest in Fields, too.

The Jets are on the search for their new signal caller after parting ways with Aaron Rodgers as Aaron Glenn rebuilds the roster.

Fields started the first six games of the season for the Steelers before Tomlin replaced him with Wilson for the remainder of the campaign.

Jones, meanwhile, decided to leave the Giants last November after being benched and moved to quarterback No 4 by coach Brian Daboll.

‘Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him,’ owner John Mara said in a statement. ‘We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team.

‘Daniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way. His handling of this situation exemplifies just that.

‘We are all disappointed in how things have worked out. We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him. We wish him nothing but the best in the future.’
