Disturbing vision has captured the moment two pedestrians are forced to run for their lives after a stolen car mounted the pavement.
Police said a Volkswagen Polo was spotted driving erratically at 7.10pm on Wednesday near Rouse Street and Esplanade East in Port Melbourne, Victoria.
Officers rushed to the scene following numerous calls from concerned residents.
Footage showed the silver hatchback skidding along Esplanade East before driving over the kerb and onto the footpath on Rouse Street.
In CCTV of the incident, people could be heard screaming as two residents ran onto the road to avoid being hit by the out-of-control car.
Police alleged later vision showed a man being hit by the car, but he was not seriously injured. He and another woman left the scene before police arrived.
‘The man and woman are yet to come forward to police and the driver remains outstanding,’ a police spokeswoman said.
‘Ongoing enquiries by police have confirmed the vehicle was stolen.
‘Police believe at this early stage the incident was targeted, and the people involved may have been known to one another.’
Officers found the stolen hatchback dumped 800metres from the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing with anyone who witnessed the incident or with information urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
