Paige Spiranac has torn into Chris DiMarco on social media after the former Masters runner-up complained about playing for a $2million prizefund on the Champions Tour.
DiMarco, a three-time PGA Tour winner, even went as far as pleading for Saudi-backed LIV Golf to buy the Champions Tour and pump up the money on the tour designed for players aged 50 and over.
The 55-year-old told the Subpar Podcast: ‘We’re kind of hoping that LIV buys the Champions Tour.
‘Let’s play for a little real money out here. I mean, this is kind of a joke when we’re getting $2million (at last week’s Hoag Classic).
‘There were like seven guys last week (at the PGA Tour’s Players Championship) that made more money than our purses.’
Paige Spiranac slammed Chris DiMarco for his recent comments about money in golf
The 55-year-old DiMarco bemoaned playing for a ‘little’ $2m prizefund on the Champions Tour
Spiranac soon picked up on DiMarco’s comments and mocked him on her X account
It prompted a sharp reaction from the golfing influencer, who took to X and wrote to her 1million followers: ‘Chris DiMarco has made over 22 million dollars over his career on the course.
‘That number is not counting sponsorship money. Hand up if you’re tired of pro golfers complaining about money.’
DiMarco hadn’t replied to Spiranac on X as of Tuesday night but if the golfing influencer sees more of his quotes on the podcast, she is likely to feel even more unimpressed.
‘See you later. I’m gone,’ he said in response to if he would have joined LIV during his prime playing days.
He continued: ‘Golf has come a long way, and it should. I don’t fault any of those guys for going to LIV.
‘It’d be a purely monetary thing for me. You’re talking generational money these guys are making, and it’d be nice to have that in the bank and have my kids taken care of.’
