alert-–-outrage-as-multiple-lawmakers-fall-asleep-in-congressAlert – Outrage as multiple lawmakers fall ASLEEP in Congress

Three lawmakers have been outed for falling asleep in Congress during an overnight bill markup at Capitol Hill, sparking outrage online.

Video shows the hilarious moment Democrat Reps Debbie Dingell from Michigan and Jan Schakowsky from Illinois took a nap on Wednesday morning.

Another clip shows Republican Rep. Blake Moore from Utah being gently shaken awake by another lawmaker after he failed to respond to a question.

The snooze-fest came during a marathon hearing in Washington DC as lawmakers debated Donald Trump’s ‘big, beautiful’ domestic policy bill.

Dingell, 71, was seen slumped in her seat completely unconscious while surrounded by three bottled drinks.

Meanwhile, Schakowsky, 80, was caught snoozing in the bottom corner of a video feed showing another lawmaker speaking just inches away.

Moore, 44, failed to respond to a question and needed waking up by a neighboring politician, as surrounding Congressmen laughed.

The mass cross-party nap prompted a flood of criticism online.

‘On our tax dollar – disgraceful!’ one X user raged, while others called Congress a ‘complete disgrace’.

‘It must be exhausting to work two days a month,’ one person gibed.

‘Why are we paying any of them??’ another fumed.

‘This is why they never get anything done,’ one X user added.

Blake Moore told the Daily Mail that he ‘may have needed a quick power nap’ during the 18-hour markup.

But he’s proud that Republicans ‘powered through’ to deliver a great bill for American families, workers and businesses.

‘I will add that he was awake and texting our team just prior to the video!’ an aide for Moore added.

Dingell fired back that she was up for 31 hours straight.

‘Been up for 31 hours straight fighting Republicans trying to gut Medicaid. Closed my eyes to think about an America where everyone has access to quality, affordable health care,’ she wrote on X.

Her office told the Daily Mail in a statement: ‘At the time of the video, Congresswoman Dingell had been up for 27 hours, including working all night in committee to fight Republicans’ efforts to gut Medicaid.’

The DC naptime came as several House committees pulled an all-nighter to dig into the details of what Trump has called ‘the big, beautiful bill’.

Proposals in the mammoth bill include tax cuts totaling $5 trillion, which would remove tax on tips, Social Security income and car loan interest.

Trump’s package also puts forward various controversial policies including large reductions in Medicaid health care, food stamps and green energy strategies.

The bill advanced through the House last month when lawmakers voted 216-214 to start working on it.

Officially called THE ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL, the legislation is likely to linger in the House for a long time as even Republican politicians are bitterly divided over the details.

Dueling factions of the ruling party argued over whether to cut spending by $4 billion or $1.5 trillion in April, prompting House Speaker Mike Johnson to postpone an earlier vote.

The package has sparked the biggest official political debate over the taxes in almost a decade.

Congress has not wrestled with such a hefty package since 2018, when Republicans approved the Trump tax cuts – but also failed to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

The cost assessments in the latest bill are only preliminary, and they are expected to soar.
