Aussie supermarkets are already lining the shelves with hot cross buns more than three months before Easter – and not everybody is happy.
For the first time, Woolworths will sell Fairy Bread Hot Cross Buns that come with a packet of sprinkles to allow customers to add as many as they like.
Brioche Cadbury Chocolate, Indulgent Chocolate buns and a Woolworths favourite, Cadbury Caramilk Hot Cross Buns, will also be up for grabs.
The limited edition Fairy Bread and Caramilk come in a four-pack for $5 while more traditional flavours will be sold for $4 for a six-pack.
Up to 1.8million hot cross buns are expected to be sold in just the first week, however Aussies were divided over the Easter treat being sold on Boxing Day.
Shoppers can purchase a six or nine pack of apple and cinnamon, fruit-free, chocolate or traditional hot cross buns to support the charity until January 2

‘Easter eggs are already selling at my local Woolies supermarket,’ one said.
‘Boxing Day but remember if people didn’t buy them straight after Christmas then they would stop selling them straight after Christmas,’ a second said.
‘Christmas hasn’t even happened but I’m here for it,’ a third wrote.
Meanwhile, Coles will sell special packs of hot cross buns that will donate 20c per bag to the children’s cancer charity Redkite.
Shoppers can purchase a six or nine pack of Apple Cinnamon, fruit-free, chocolate or traditional hot cross buns to support the charity until January 2.
Redkite delivers vital services to families facing childhood cancer including counselling and financial assistance to pay household bills, groceries and fuel.
Coles Bakery general manager Kate Roff said hot cross buns were quickly becoming a staple post-Christmas treat.
‘This year, we’re proud to add an extra layer of sweetness through our partnership with Redkite, to support families affected by childhood cancer,’ she said.
‘By choosing Coles Brand hot cross buns until January 2, customers can indulge in the delicious Easter treat, all while supporting Redkite’s important work.’
Coles has raised over $50million for the charity since 2013 with up to 8,000 families benefitting from Redkite support during the 10-year partnership.
Twins Lily and Rose were separated when Rose was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma and sent to Queensland Children’s Hospital for treatment
Twins Lily and Rose were separated when Rose was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma and sent to Queensland Children’s Hospital for treatment.
Her mother Cass went with her, leaving Lily behind in northern New South Wales.
When Rose returned, Cass reached out to Redkite after noticing the girls were experiencing separation anxiety, heightened anger and trouble sleeping.
The girls were able to benefit from free counselling offered by the service.
Redkite CEO, Monique Keighery, said they were ‘incredibly grateful’ for the support from Coles and the kindness of customers.
‘Together, we are ensuring families like Cass, Rose and Lily don’t have to face the challenges of a childhood cancer diagnosis alone, making a tangible impact.’
Easter will be celebrated in on March 31, 2024.
