Ohio’s attorney general slammed the federal government for an influx of Haitian migrants as he reacted to wild claims that they are eating pets and driving recklessly.
Republican Dave Yost directed his office to research legal avenues to stop ‘the federal government from sending an unlimited number of migrants to Ohio communities,’ particularly the city of Springfield.
‘There’s got to be a limiting principle,’ Yost said in a statement on Monday. ‘We’re going to find a way to get this disaster in front of a federal judge.’
The AG said that the migrant influx has strained the state’ social services and said the federal government has not worked with local officials to prepare for the newcomers.
Yost added: ‘This is absurd – Springfield has swollen by more than a third due to migrants…

‘How many people can they be expected to take? What are the limits to the federal government’s power? Could the federal government simply funnel into Ohio all the millions of migrants flooding in under the current administration’s watch?
The AG’s statement comes amid unfounded claims that have been circulating on social media about Haitian migrants eating people’s pets.
Springfield officials have denied the rumors, telling DailyMail.com on Monday that ‘there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community.’
Despite the claims being unconfirmed, Ohio senator and VP candidate JD Vance has repeated rumors that Haitian migrants have been eating people’s pets.
‘Months ago, I raised the issue of Haitian illegal immigrants draining social services and generally causing chaos all over Springfield, Ohio,’ Vance posted on X Monday alongside a video of him previously speaking about the crisis facing the town.

‘Reports now show that people have had their pets abducted and eaten by people who shouldn’t be in this country,’ he added.
‘Where is our border czar?’ the post continued.
After many pointed out that the rumors are unconfirmed, Vance said on Tuesday: ‘In the last several weeks, my office has received many inquiries from actual residents of Springfield who’ve said their neighbors’ pets or local wildlife were abducted by Haitian migrants. It’s possible, of course, that all of these rumors will turn out to be false.’
Vance’s post added: ‘Do you know what’s confirmed? That a child was murdered by a Haitian migrant who had no right to be here. That local health services have been overwhelmed. That communicable diseases–like TB and HIV–have been on the rise. That local schools have struggled to keep up with newcomers who don’t know English. That rents have risen so fast that many Springfield families can’t afford to put a roof over their head.’

Springfield resident Jeff Allen told WKEF that he has heard many complaints about the migrants’ reckless driving.
‘I think the main thing that people were concerned about is driving. The reckless driving, not knowing how to drive and being on the streets, and the amount of accidents that have been occurring, he said.
Last month, an aggrieved Springfield resident helped spark claims that Haitian migrants have been decapitating ducks in public parks and eating them during a city commission meeting.
