An office manager who stole more than £900,000 from her employers to fund a luxury lifestyle has been ordered to pay back just over £211,000.

Emma Hunt was jailed for three years last August after being found guilty of fraud and embezzlement.

The 38-year-old, from Coldstream, Berwickshire, spent thousands of pounds on parties, hospitality at sporting events, holidays, cars and designer goods.

She splashed some of the money on a £40,000 Halloween bash at Fenton Tower castle in East Lothian and a further £3,000 on a birthday party at Musselburgh Racecourse.

But a confiscation order for £211,574.67 was made at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday, with the Crown pointing out it has the power to extend the order to seize money and assets Hunt may acquire in the future to pay back the full amount.

During her trial last year, the court heard she took huge sums from McLean Properties in Edinburgh by arranging for tenants to pay their rents into her own bank account.

She was eventually found out after a tenant queried the payments they were making and bosses at the company began an investigation in 2019.

Hunt initially denied taking the cash but was found guilty of embezzlement and fraud, with proceedings started to claw back the money.

She was found guilty of embezzling £899,164.77, and of falsely telling 11 customers they had to pay deposits for flats when no sums were due and obtaining £7,295 by fraud.

She was also found guilty of also transferred cash to her brother’s account to pay for items including a bulldozer.

Deputy Procurator Fiscal Sineidin Corrins said: ‘We can seek to recover further assets in the future to ensure she pays back the full amount.’
