In the pursuit of a good night’s sleep many of us like to get a good seven hours in.
But it seems that most people struggle to a full night of unbroken shut eye – with the average sleeping for five hours a night.
In the latest research into the nation’s nocturnal habits, it was found that most people wake up around three and a half hours after nodding off and wake up at least twice during the night.
Those surveyed said they have difficulty nodding off at least once a week – and Sunday nights are the worst with 18 per cent of people saying that was the night they got the least sleep with apprehension ahead of the new week being a factor.
The most common reason blamed for getting in the way of getting some proper shut-eye was ‘stress, worries or a racing mind,’ especially for women.
Almost 20 per cent said anxiety over finances was spoiling their sleep, which increased to 25 per cent for those aged 35-44.
As a result, only 12 per cent of us say we are ‘very satisfied’ with our sleep quality.
