Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley said Tuesday that she thought President Joe Biden should resign on the heels of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report that called into question his mental acuity.
Haley was interviewed by conservative radio show host Hugh Hewitt, who had argued in a Fox News op-ed that Biden should step down, and said on the radio show Tuesday that he believed the 81-year-old president was ‘impaired.’
Hewitt then asked Haley, 52, is she agreed that Biden should resign.
‘Yes, I do, and I think the Democrat Party knows that. And I think that it is not just in the best interest of their party, it’s in the best interest of the country,’ the former U.N. ambassador said.
Haley pointed out that she’s said all along that ‘the party that gets rid of their 80-year-old candidate is the party that will win.’

As of now, she’s lost Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada – where she wasn’t competing – to 77-year-old former President Donald Trump, who still seems to have a lock on Republican voters.
‘We cannot have a country in disarray in a world on fire and have to presidential candidates in their 80s,’ Haley argued. ‘When we need someone who’s going to put eight years into making sure that we are disciplined, focused on getting our economy, the border, preventing war, and getting our country back on track.’
Hewitt pointed out that Republicans ‘recoil in horror’ at the prospect of Vice President Kamala Harris being elevated to the top job and asked Haley to chime in on those fears.
At that, Haley repeated a line that she often uses on the campaign trail – that the country is destined to have a female president of the United States.
‘It will either be me, or it will be Kamala Harris, because if Donald Trump runs, you have seen in multiple polls he cannot win a general election,’ Haley said.
Usually Haley also argues that Biden won’t serve out a full second term.
In this case, Hewitt pressed Haley on whether she believed Harris would be able to handle the job for a year.
‘No, I don’t think Kamala Harris can handle it, but I don’t nkow that she’s any worse or better than Joe Biden,’ Haley answered.
‘I mean, right now, you look at the leadership there, it’s terrible no matter what you do,’ the former South Carolina governor continued. ‘But the idea that Russia, China, and Iran can see that we have a, you know, mentally diminished president is a threat to all Americans, because right now, what keeps me up at night is what happens between now and Election Day.’
Haley also told Hewitt she didn’t believe Hur crossed a line by talking about Biden’s memory lapses.
The White House and Biden allies have characterized the report as a partisan hit job, as Hur was a Trump appointee.
‘I mean, look. I think that we have to always make sure none of our agencies are political, and that’s why they all need to be cleared out,’ Haley said.
‘But you look at Joe Biden from two years ago, and you look at Joe Biden now. He’s not wrong,’ she said of Hur’s assessment, which included that a jury would find the 81-year-old president ‘a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.’
The report also noted Biden’s ‘diminished faculties.’
‘I mean, look at the press conference Joe Biden gave after that. He was angry. He was, you know, lashing out. But what happened, he gets countries confused. We see it in a press conference. We see it when they have to go grab his hand and help him off stage,’ Haley said. ‘It is not a good look for America.’
